Day 5 - Paris - Versailles

One of the things I wanted to do most in Paris was to go out to the Palace of Versailles. My family, or really mom and I, always loved going to to opulent mansions to see "how the other half lived!" So I still love visiting these houses and bringing back a book and pictures to share with my mom.

Versailles is considered a suburb of Paris where the the royal family lived for over a hundred years beginning in 1682 until the French Revolution.  Louis XIV was king when the the royal seat was moved out to Versailles.

The outside of the house was beautiful and thoroughly adorned with guilded gold.

The house is gigantic, over 721,000 square feet and includes its own chapel and theater.

While we were there, they were installing a Japanese pop art exhibit by Murakami.

The most famous room in Versailles is the Hall of Mirrors, a room almost 240 feet long with mirrors on one side and windows on the other.

The King and Queen's bed chambers.  Yep separate rooms... Oh have times changed!

But the real star of the show was the grounds outside the house. The fountains, pools and flowers were spectacular.

Evan Paris had animals emerging from the water in their fountains.  This time it was Posidon being pulled by a team of horses.

My absolute favorite picture. Remove the picture and it is truly postcard worth.

The topiaries and the pretty flowers.

Looking back at the house from the gardens.

One of my favorite things we did during the entire trip and the weather could not have been more perfect!

1. Dang that's a lot of gold!
2. Those Japanese figures don't go in there AT ALL!
3. Love the Poseidon statue in the water!
